Faith & the Word · Joy & Salvation

Sing, Little Song Bird

“And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: It shall rejoice in his salvation.”

Psalm 35:9
A singing bird perched on a branch beside the words of Psalm 35:9
You have a reason to sing.

He keeps you singing as you go.

But how, Lord?

In this crazy world… how?

How do we keep a song in our hearts when there is always something asking us to worry? Something to fix. Something we don’t understand. Something that can pull our thoughts into places where peace seems far away.

Look closely at what David said.

My soul shall be joyful IN THE LORD.

It shall rejoice IN HIS SALVATION.

There it is. The place where our song begins.

We can spend so much time looking at what hasn’t happened yet that we forget to rejoice in what Jesus has already done.

We are loved.

We have been offered forgiveness.

We have a Shepherd.

We have a Savior.

And we have a future that reaches far beyond the troubles of this day.

Oh, Little Song Bird… you have a reason to sing.

His LOVE is just that good.

His GRACE is just that good.

And His FREEDOM is just that sweet.

You have tasted. You have seen. You have known moments when His Word reached into the very place that hurt and brought you comfort. When His mercy met you after a mistake. When you came to Him with a heart full of things you couldn’t untangle, and found that you didn’t have to carry them alone.

Remember those moments.

Let gratitude bring them back into view.

Sometimes we need to remind our souls of what is true.

That memory does not have to govern your future.

That failure does not have to become your name.

That fear does not have to make your decisions.

You belong to Jesus. And He is still teaching you how to walk in the freedom He has given you.

He strengthens your heart, too.

The inner places.

Your thoughts. Your emotions. The places where old wounds still ache and tomorrow’s concerns try to settle before tomorrow has even arrived.

Bring those places to Him.

You don’t have to wait until your heart feels perfectly composed to begin praising. You can come with tears upon your cheeks and a song barely above a whisper.

He hears that song, too.

Perhaps today your praise sounds like this:

“Lord, I’m tired, but I know You love me.”

“I don’t understand this, but I trust You.”

“Thank You for staying near.”

There is something precious about a heart that turns toward its Shepherd in the middle of the difficulty. A heart that remembers His goodness while still waiting for an answer.

You have SALVATION.

You have LIFE EVERLASTING.

You have the promise of His presence as you walk through this day.

Let that truth have room in your heart.

Let it rise above the noise for a moment.

The world has spoken plenty. Your worries have had their turn. Now open the Word and remember what your Father has said.

Then sing, Little Song Bird.

Sing while you wash the dishes.

Sing as you walk across the pasture.

Sing softly before you close your eyes tonight.

Let your ordinary day become a place of thanksgiving.

Your Shepherd is with you.

Your soul has somewhere to rest.

And you have a reason to sing. 🎶
