He’s the definition of blue collar. Tough. Strong. Loyal.

How I see him most days…
On his fourth shirt of the day, having sweated through the others. Home from one job to start his other one—cutting hay or shepherding the flocks, cleaning up storm debris, repairing broken things… sometimes hearts.
He’s the definition of blue collar.
Tough. Strong. Loyal.
And he does it all with a dance, a grin that knocks me off my feet, and no matter how hard life can sometimes be, he does it with peace and joy. He does it with a contentment that only comes from someone who fully trusts the Lord to be sovereign over all—especially the things that, no matter how hard we try, we just can’t control.
Mark once told me he feels closest to God on a John Deere tractor or driving down a dirt road in the country. I’m so thankful God still meets our men on horseback or in side-by-sides at the top of hillsides, looking over a field that’s just been bush hogged.
“But godliness with contentment is great gain…”
1 Timothy 6:6 · KJV
At the end of the day…
Faith. Family. Farm.

Life on the land
Life at Shepherd Farms feels a little like stepping back to 1985—before iPhones and doomscrolling, when we spent more time looking up, talking face to face, and stopping to watch the evening sunset. It takes me back to Mama canning in the kitchen, my sister and me shucking corn on the back porch, and the sweet smell of summer jam filling the air. It brings back watermelon fresh from the field, muscadines on the vine, honeysuckle, sunset strolls down the red dirt road, and tractor rides.
Here, we still find joy in those simple things: gathering supper from the garden, holding a newborn goat, watching chickens cross the yard, and laughing at the antics of our dogs and cats. There’s gathering with neighbors at the end of the driveway, back porch swings, and old hymns and Southern gospel songs that turn our hearts toward Jesus. We love looking up at the stars at night and spending cozy winter evenings around the wood stove, with precious pups nestled in our laps or at our feet and the gentle crackle of the fire.
This land gives our family a place to work, laugh, and make memories together. It teaches us to follow through, care for what we’ve been given, and wait long enough to enjoy the fruits of our labor. As we shepherd and tend, God brings His Word to life in ordinary moments, teaching us stewardship, patience, and love.
Goats, dogs, gardens, pasture, ponds—and Jesus at the heart of it all. That’s why this farm is so dear to me. Welcome to Shepherd Farms. I hope you feel a little of that simple joy here, too.

Help us keep planting seeds of faith.
Here on the farm, we know that growing something takes faithful tending through every season. Sharing God’s Word takes that same steady care.
If these teachings have strengthened your faith or encouraged your heart, I invite you to help me bring that encouragement to someone else. Your ongoing shopping through my “tentmaking” business can help support the time and resources needed to keep writing, creating Bible teachings, and sharing practical encouragement through Shepherd Farms Ministries.
“…he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
Proverbs 11:25 · KJV
A biblical picture
In Acts 18:3, Paul worked as a tentmaker alongside Aquila and Priscilla. Today, “tentmaking” is often used to describe earning a living through work or business while serving in ministry.
At Shepherd Farms, Misti’s business helps sustain her writing and Bible teachings so more people can grow in faith and apply God’s truth to everyday life. You can explore becoming a customer or building a business alongside her.
