The Psalms have always been one of my favorite places to go when life feels heavy.
There is something so beautiful about reading the heart cries of David woven throughout these songs. Whether he was sitting in a meadow with his sheep, standing on a battlefield, hiding in a cave, grieving, repenting, rejoicing, or singing before the Lord with his harp, he poured out his heart honestly before God.
That's what I love most about the Psalms.
David didn't pretend.
He didn't hide his fear.
He didn't hide his grief.
He didn't hide his questions.
He started where he was.
But he rarely ended there.
Again and again, David would begin by expressing how he truly felt, but he would end by declaring who God is.
"My enemies surround me..."
"But God is my refuge."
"I am afraid..."
"But God is my salvation."
"I am overwhelmed..."
"But God is my help."
His pain always found its way to praise.
His sorrow always found its way to worship.
His fear always found its way back to faith.
And I want my life to be a psalm.
I want every trial, every disappointment, every victory, every season of waiting, and every moment of joy to become a psalm that leads me back to the goodness of God.
So I've started a new verse-by-verse journey through the Book of Psalms, and I'd love for you to join me.
Maybe today you need to step away from the noise for a little while.
Maybe you need to sit with the Good Shepherd and remember who He is.
Maybe there's a situation in your life that needs to become a psalm.
What is your declaration?
How will you finish your song?
