Fly, Little Messengers
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
Matthew 6:26

This morning, on my walk with our Lord, I saw a bird perched on a wire nestled by the trees. It sat facing the morning sun, staring into the distance, fixed and focused on its destination.
The bird is full, having been fed by our Father. She is at peace. Even while walking upon the ground, she knows she has wings to soar. She understands her position, seated in heavenly places, high above the limitations of earthly things.
However, the bird did not begin its journey perched and flying high above the earth. She began in the womb, birthed from the waters and kept in the nest until she had matured. Then, when fully developed and ready to soar high above the world below, the bird took flight. This happened AFTER the little sparrow learned to expect that when it opened its mouth, it would be fed.
I read today that to get a bird to leave the nest, the parents stand nearby and call to the young bird. They may bring food but stop delivering it directly into the nest as often. The parents will fly back and forth nearby, giving the young bird something to follow. The bird will eventually hop to the edge of the nest, begin flapping its wings, take one faith-filled jump, and start learning to fly.
Does not our God have wings of feathers? Has He not held us in His womb, and have we not come forth from the waters of His Spirit with wings to soar? Has He not opened our mouths to fill them? Has He not put His Word in our mouths, equipping us with every morsel of His Living Bread, nourishing, fulfilling, teaching, and maturing?
Have you heard the call to leave the nest? Can you see your Heavenly Father flying in your midst, circling above and saying, “Come up here. Come up higher to Me. You are seated in heavenly places with Me. I am calling you to Myself. Come now and follow after Me. I shall bear you on the wings of God.”
“If you’re a bird. I’m a bird.”
Put that in your “Notebook.” Make a movie of that. Create a love story for the cinema of heaven.
You are made in the image of a God who has given you wings to soar…
and you are His messenger.
Perched.
Fixed.
Nestled “in the trees” ~ amongst the living oaks, amongst the fruit trees, resting with blueberries beneath your feet and honey upon your lips, forever filled by the fruit of all that God has created for you.
The Lord told me to “look at the birds”; thus I looked. And behold, He gave me a vision of something more. The bird became like unto a lamp coated with oil, pouring forth the anointing of God. The oil dripped from the tip of its head to the bottom of its tail. Its belly was as a lamp full of oil, flying through the air, dripping ointment from its feet, for….
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”
Isaiah 52:7
Fly, little Messengers.
Fly with your oil.
You are well fed for your journey.
You heard the call, and you answered.
Return with your olive branch, having shed abroad the gospel of peace to all those willing to “look to the birds.”
Feed them.
Teach them how to fly.
Be fruitful and multiply after your own kind.
You are FREE, Little Birds.
The breath of God carries you.
